It is always fun to forage in your school garden & the dandelion plant which can be found in most gardens around the world. We often see the dandelion as a weed but by first nations people it is often seen as a medicine to purify the blood. They learnt that when you eat the flowers & leaves in a salad & the roots are dried & used in a tea – it can help to cleanse our kidneys which filter our blood – pretty neat!
Ask students if they can find a dandelion plant in your school garden. Ask them to observe it.
What is the color and shape of the leaves and flowers?
What does it smell like?
What do you think it would taste like?
What does it feel like – when you touch the plant?
Do you see any bugs on the plant?
